Best AI Agent Platforms for WhatsApp Automation 2027: The 6 Worth Paying For

The best AI agent platforms for WhatsApp automation 2027: six ranked on what they actually do, with pricing taken from each vendor's own site.

Best AI agent platforms for WhatsApp automation: a phone glowing on a dark counter at night with messages arriving, one already answered

The best AI agent platforms for WhatsApp automation 2027 exist because somebody on your team left a customer with a green checkmark and nothing else, and called that automation. It isn’t. The free WhatsApp Business app has shipped exactly one canned away message since the feature existed, and every AI agent platform on this list exists because a single typed-once sentence stopped being enough around the time customers started expecting an actual reply instead of a receipt. Meta itself agrees: over 175 million people message a WhatsApp Business account every day, a number Meta hasn’t even bothered updating since 2020 because it only ever goes up. Salesforce’s own research puts a year on it too: 30% of service cases were resolved by AI in 2025, with organizations projecting 50% by 2027, the exact year on the label of every list like this one, ours included. Whatever you shortlist this quarter is what’s still answering your WhatsApp in 2027, so the six below are ranked on what they do today, not on a roadmap slide.

The best AI agent platforms for WhatsApp automation in 2027: We Love Joe for one AI agent across WhatsApp, phone and every channel a business runs; SleekFlow and respond.io for AI agents added to an existing omnichannel inbox; WATI and Interakt for WhatsApp-first teams on a budget; Botpress for a custom-built agent. Pricing and screenshots for all six below.

How we picked

Six platforms, checked against their own pricing pages in September 2026 rather than their sales decks, on three things.

Does it act, or does it just talk. An agent that can read a conversation and describe booking an appointment is a nicer chatbot. One that actually writes to a calendar or an order system is the thing this whole category is supposed to be. We looked for a real automation flow or “agent” feature on the pricing page itself, not a paragraph of marketing copy above a “book a demo” button.

Whether WhatsApp is the whole product or one channel of several. Some of these tools were built for WhatsApp and grew outward. One was built for every channel and WhatsApp is just where most of the volume happens to be. Neither approach is wrong, but they solve different shopping lists, and half the “best of” posts on this exact keyword blur the two together.

Whether the AI agent is included in the price you see, or sold as a second purchase after the first one. This turned out to be the single biggest split between the six, and nobody puts it on the comparison table where you’d notice before signing up.

You might have typed something else to land here: “ai agent platform for whatsapp,” “whatsapp business api automation,” “best whatsapp chatbot platform,” “ai customer service whatsapp,” “whatsapp crm with ai agent,” or “whatsapp automation software 2027.” Same six platforms answer all of them, because the tools that solve this don’t reorganize themselves by which four words you searched.

This list is narrower on purpose. If you want the broader spread, broadcast tools, CRM plug-ins and the WhatsApp Business API providers underneath all of them, that’s a different, bigger list. This one only includes platforms that behave like an actual agent: something that can decide, not just send.

An abstract flow diagram: one lit path runs through three guarded checkpoints to a checkmark, while a tangled unguarded cloud of lines drifts off to the side going nowhere

Best AI agent platforms for WhatsApp automation 2027: the 6 at a glance

# Platform AI agent included at base price? Other channels Starts at
1 We Love Joe Yes, native Phone, Instagram, Messenger, SMS, email, web chat From €59/mo, flat
2 respond.io No, Growth tier and up 10+ channels, including voice $79/mo
3 WATI No, Astra sold separately Instagram €59/mo
4 Interakt No, a $74.99 add-on Instagram $55/mo
5 SleekFlow Yes, from Pro 10+ channels, VoIP $109/mo
6 Botpress Yes, but WhatsApp is locked until Plus Web, voice on Enterprise $150/mo

1. We Love Joe: one agent, not one more WhatsApp tool

Every other platform on this list answers the question “how do I automate WhatsApp.” Joe answers a different one: how do you run one conversation, built once, across WhatsApp, phone, Instagram, Messenger, SMS, email and web chat, so a customer gets the same correct answer no matter which app they happened to open. That distinction matters the moment your WhatsApp volume is real but it isn’t your only channel, which describes most of the businesses shopping this list.

The flow is deterministic on purpose, a fixed graph of nodes the model operates inside rather than a free-running agent improvising a refund policy at midnight. About 80% of it is pre-built (the nodes, the actions, the integrations); the rest is the business’s own logic, which is the part that actually needs a human’s judgment. On one real estate client’s account, after-hours messages used to sit unanswered until morning. Joe now captures all of them across channels and resolves half with no human needed, a number that’s structurally out of reach for a WhatsApp-only tool since there’s no other channel for it to catch.

Pricing is usage-based credits from €59 a month, hosted in Europe, with bring-your-own-key available for larger accounts. The screenshot below is a real escalation from the unified inbox, not a mockup: a WhatsApp cancellation that matched a refund rule, went quiet on the automated branch, and got handed to a person with the reason attached.

The We Love Joe unified inbox showing a WhatsApp escalation, a live phone call, and a drafted reply awaiting approval

Best for: businesses and franchise networks where WhatsApp is real volume but not the only channel worth automating.

2. respond.io: an AI agent bolted onto an inbox that already does everything else

Respond.io’s pitch is “pay only for the contacts you talk to,” and its pricing page backs that up with ten-plus channels, a genuinely deep integration list (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier, Cal.com), and a clean $79/$159/$279 ladder. The catch sits in the row most people scroll past: AI Agents is a plain grey dash on the $79 Starter tier and only turns into a blue checkmark from Growth at $159 a month. Starter gets AI prompts and chat summaries, useful, but not an agent that acts.

WhatsApp costs live outside the subscription entirely. Respond.io says it plainly on its own pricing page: “WhatsApp fees are not included in any respond.io subscription. Meta charges these fees based on your usage,” on top of $12 to $15 per extra 100 monthly active contacts once you outgrow the plan’s included pool.

Best for: teams already running respond.io as their omnichannel inbox who want to add an agent without switching tools, and don’t mind the agent being a $159 decision, not a $79 one.

3. WATI: the cheapest way onto the real WhatsApp Business API, if you’re fine layering the agent on after

WATI’s whole pitch is affordability into the official API: zero-fee WhatsApp setup, a Blue Tick verification help, and a Growth plan that starts at €59 a month for three users with no room to add a fourth. What it doesn’t include at that price is the actual AI agent. Astra, WATI’s AI Agents product, only shows up from Pro at €119 a month, and even then the pricing page lists it as “Astra add-on, priced separately,” a phrase that’s doing a lot of work in a screenshot otherwise full of green checkmarks.

Business, the top recurring tier at €279 a month, adds multiple WhatsApp numbers, round-robin assignment and a dedicated customer success manager, aimed squarely at teams running WhatsApp as a genuine call-center replacement rather than a side channel.

WATI’s pricing page showing Growth at €59, Pro at €119 with Astra AI Agents as a separately priced add-on, and Business at €279 a month

Best for: WhatsApp-only shops that want cheap, legitimate API access now and are willing to treat the AI agent as a second, later purchase.

4. Interakt: WhatsApp and Instagram in one hub, the AI agent is its own product entirely

Interakt doesn’t blur automation and AI agent into one pitch, it sells them as three separate tabs on the same pricing page: Marketing & Support Hub, WhatsApp AI Agents, and a Sales CRM. The Hub itself runs $12, $55 and $69 a month across its three paid tiers, and WhatsApp isn’t even on the cheapest one: Starter is Instagram only, so Growth at $55 a month is the real entry point once WhatsApp is part of the job. Each tier up adds more custom fields, tags and automation triggers, none of which is an agent that decides anything on its own.

The AI agent lives one tab over, and Interakt’s own pricing page states the price of admission in a single banner most competitors would bury in fine print: “Add on: WhatsApp AI Agents @$74.99 for Growth & Advance plan.” That’s not a typo, it’s the honest structure of the product, automation and intelligence sold and billed as two different decisions.

Interakt’s pricing page showing monthly plans at $12, $55 and $69, with WhatsApp included from Growth up and a banner reading Add On: WhatsApp AI Agents at $74.99 for Growth and Advance plans

Best for: WhatsApp plus Instagram businesses that want to prove out automation cheaply first and only pay for the AI agent once that’s working.

5. SleekFlow: the AI agent is the headline feature, not a line item

SleekFlow is the clearest counter-example to the last two entries. Its Pro tier, $109 a month billed yearly, lists “AI Agents” with a star icon right at the top of the features list, alongside the omnichannel inbox and automation flow builder, for 500 monthly active contacts and 10 users. Premium at $279 a month adds “agentic workflows,” a WhatsApp Flow builder, and a ticketing system on top, aimed at teams that have outgrown a single flow and need several agents coordinating.

Enterprise, custom pricing only, is where SleekFlow gets specific about the parts a franchise or a multi-brand operator actually asks about: PII data masking, multi-workspace support, and role-based access control, none of which show up until you’re past Premium.

SleekFlow’s pricing page showing Pro at $109 and Premium at $279 a month, both listing AI Agents as a headline included feature rather than an add-on

Best for: teams that want the agent in the base price, not a second SKU to negotiate six months in.

6. Botpress: build the agent yourself, WhatsApp is just one channel it plugs into

Botpress is the odd one out on this list because it isn’t a WhatsApp tool at all, it’s a general-purpose AI agent builder that happens to support WhatsApp as one channel among several. That shows up directly in the pricing: the Free tier, $0 for 25 conversations a month and three AI agents, explicitly excludes WhatsApp, listed on the pricing page as “No WhatsApp or voice channels.” You only reach WhatsApp on Plus, $150 a month billed annually, which also opens up unlimited AI agents and a $25 AI usage credit for 250 included conversations.

Team, at $750 a month for 1,500 conversations and unlimited seats, is built for a company running several agents across several teams at once, with real-time collaboration and routing on top. Voice only shows up on Enterprise, custom pricing, alongside an uptime SLA and a security review.

Botpress’s pricing page showing the Free tier explicitly excluding WhatsApp, Plus at $150 a month opening up the WhatsApp channel, and Team at $750 a month

Best for: technical teams that want to design the agent’s logic themselves rather than configure someone else’s template, and don’t mind starting at $150 a month the day WhatsApp actually needs to be in scope.

The 24-hour rule nobody puts on the pricing page

Every one of these six inherits the same constraint from Meta, not from the vendor: once a customer messages you, you get 24 hours of free-form replies. After that window closes, the only way back in is a pre-approved message template, billed separately, which is exactly why respond.io, WATI and Interakt all carve WhatsApp message costs out of the subscription price. Interakt even breaks it down by type: marketing, utility, authentication and service messages each carry a different rate, service messages free, marketing the most expensive by far.

An agent that’s well built plans its reminders and follow-ups as templates from the start instead of assuming it can always speak freely, which is the mistake that quietly breaks a lot of DIY automations the week after launch, when the 24-hour window closes mid-conversation for the first time. WhatsApp Business Calling API is starting to push this beyond text entirely too, voice calls placed inside the app itself, which means an agent platform that’s still purely a chat tool in 2027 will be replatforming again before long.

How to choose between them

Start with whether the AI agent is included in the number on the pricing page or sold as a second decision after the first one.

Pricing structure Platforms What it means for you
Agent included from the base paid tier We Love Joe, SleekFlow One number to budget, no second approval needed to get the actual AI
Agent gated behind a higher tier respond.io Cheap to start, expensive the day you actually need the agent
Agent sold as a separate add-on WATI, Interakt Prove the automation first, buy the intelligence once it’s earned its keep
Agent is the product, one channel opens per tier Botpress You’re buying a builder, not a WhatsApp tool, and WhatsApp itself has its own price of admission

Then look at what’s actually WhatsApp-only versus what runs everywhere. If a real share of your inbound is phone calls or Instagram DMs, five of the six platforms above either don’t cover that channel or charge for it as a second product with its own onboarding. Pull last month’s conversations by channel before you shortlist anything; the answer usually rules out half this list before pricing even enters the conversation.

If WhatsApp has to sound the same at every location

Franchise networks are the group this decision punishes hardest when it’s rushed. Head office wants every location answering the same way, and every location wants zero extra work, which sounds like the same goal until location seven’s manager quietly edits the WhatsApp auto-reply for a local edge case and eighteen months later no two locations answer a simple hours question the same way. The fix isn’t a flow per location, it’s one flow with per-location variables (hours, address, the manager’s name) swapped in automatically, so head office edits the logic once and every location inherits it the same day.

That’s a structural decision, not a feature toggle, and only two of the six platforms above, We Love Joe and SleekFlow’s Enterprise tier, mention multi-location or multi-workspace support anywhere on their pricing page. Worth asking about directly before you’re seven locations deep and stuck reconciling six different WhatsApp numbers by hand.

What none of these six fix by themselves

Buying any platform on this list without deciding what the agent is allowed to say on your behalf first is how you end up with a chatbot that invents a policy. We’ve watched a demo build for a pest control business hand out a same-day booking before it had confirmed whether the caller actually had wasps in a kid’s bedroom or ants near the garage, two very different jobs with two very different urgency levels. Once urgency became a variable the agent had to collect before booking, accuracy on that one flow jumped immediately.

That’s the part a pricing page never covers. Gartner projects agentic AI will autonomously resolve 80% of common service issues by 2029, without a human, which means even three years past this list’s own headline year, one in five conversations still needs a person to step in. The software runs the conversation. The business still has to write down, in advance, what it’s willing to let AI decide on WhatsApp and what has to route to a person every time, no exceptions the model can talk itself into. Meta clearly sees the same shift coming: The New York Times covered its own Muse agent the day before this list was written, Meta’s attempt at the general-purpose version of exactly this problem.

Next step

Export last month’s WhatsApp conversations and sort them into three piles: answered fast and correctly, answered slow, and never answered at all. That third pile is worth more than any feature comparison on this page, because it’s the exact volume every platform above is trying to sell you a fix for. If a chunk of it also came in by phone or Instagram while WhatsApp sat open in a different tab, try Joe on a live conversation before signing up for a tool that only covers the channel you happened to check first.

FAQ

Which AI agent is best for WhatsApp?

It depends on what else it has to run. We Love Joe treats WhatsApp as one channel among many, phone included, so it fits when WhatsApp isn't the whole job. SleekFlow and respond.io suit teams already in an omnichannel inbox. WATI and Interakt are the cheapest honest way onto the official API. Botpress is for designing the agent's logic yourself.

Can you add an AI agent to WhatsApp, or do you need the paid Business API?

The free WhatsApp Business app can only run one canned away message and a few quick replies typed by a person, nothing that reads a conversation or takes an action. A real AI agent, one that remembers what was said and can check or update a booking, needs the WhatsApp Business API underneath it, which is what every platform on this list is actually selling access to.

How do you automate WhatsApp messages with AI, step by step?

A message arrives through a webhook, a language model reads it for intent, the agent checks something real (a knowledge base, a calendar, an order system) instead of guessing, decides to answer, ask, act or hand off, then replies through the same API. Every platform on this list wraps that loop in its own inbox and flow builder; the difference is how much of it you configure versus how much comes pre-built.

Is Meta's own AI agent enough, or do you still need one of these platforms?

Meta Business Agent is a native toggle in the free WhatsApp Business app, and as of late 2026 it's early: it answers loosely from a setup form, with no wiring into your booking system or order database. A business that needs the agent to act, not just chat, still needs one of the six platforms above.

Do WhatsApp AI agent platforms charge extra for messages on top of the subscription?

Almost always, and it's easy to miss on a pricing page built around seats. Respond.io says plainly that WhatsApp fees aren't included and Meta bills them separately. Interakt and WATI both charge per message on top of their plans, split by marketing, utility and authentication message types. Budget for the subscription and the message volume as two separate line items, not one.

What's the cheapest way to get a real WhatsApp AI agent running?

By list price, WATI's Growth plan is the entry point at 59 euros a month, though the AI agent itself, Astra, is priced and sold separately from that base plan. If the AI agent has to be included in the number you see, SleekFlow's Pro tier at $109 a month is the cheapest of the six that doesn't split automation and AI agent into two purchases.

Which AI agent is best for automation generally, not just WhatsApp?

Wrong first question for most businesses, honestly. WhatsApp automation and an AI agent that can also answer the phone, an Instagram DM or an email are different products solving the same underlying problem: a customer messaged you and nobody answered fast enough. If your volume is genuinely WhatsApp-only, pick from the six above on that basis. If it isn't, start from the channel list, not the WhatsApp feature list.
